Le Tour de France Grand Depart 2014 – we did it!

As you may have seen, Wellpleased Events were invited to organise the Press Centre for the Tour de France Grand Depart, and it went brilliantly.  we spent about 2 weeks ‘camped out’ in Wellington Place, Leeds, building the structures, laying carpets, sorting out the signage, testing the loos, primping beautiful plants and ensuring all of the power lines got to the thousands of power points spread across the site. The best thing about the event?  Well the weather wasn’t bad, but despite the reputation that the French might have in old Blighty, the ASO (who ran the event) were some of the loveliest, most professional and fun-loving clients we’ve ever worked with; and they loved us back! Above you can see our very own Sam Welply (second from left) showing Christian Prudhomme (Director of Le Tour), Nick Clegg (Deputy PM) and Gary Verity (Welcome to Yorkshire) round the site on its first day. You can see lots of the behind the scenes pics in our gallery page here.

“Our success started at Wellington Place with the provision of  the Press Centre and ASO Office Area that more than met the expectations of ASO, Welcome to Yorkshire and other partners in the Grand Départ. I wanted to thank you all for the flexibility and patience you showed in the build up to the event and the hard work you put in to making the facility look so special and to run so smoothly.  Wellpleased Events did the city proud.”
